Swifnf Kemi Nerthus.

This painting is showing a place called St Margerats Valley near Dover in Kent.

When the english lived in Anglen in north Germany/Denmark before the 455 they used to worship a goddess called Nerthus, (later in norse myths freyja). when it was this goddess festival everyone would put down there weapons and stop fighting, however when the goddess went back to her sacrid island her slaves that washed her body were drowned in the lake.

St Margerats At Cliff may have been a place where this took place when the english came to britian.

The painting is showing the cycles of nature in a valley in the north downs in kent. Night into day, summer into winter. The figures in the painting are reprensentations of summer and winter.
